5 Best medical schools in Poland For International Students

Poland has over ten universities that provide medical and related programs in English for international students. To get into these medical schools, you just need to meet the minimum admission requirements.

1) Wroclaw Medical University

Wrocław Medical University is a well-respected school for medical studies in Wrocław, Poland. It’s known for its quality education and is among the top medical schools in Poland.

This university has five main departments: Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Public Health, and Postgraduate Education. It has a total of 107 departments and clinics, where 891 teachers and professors help about 3,500 students learn.

Wrocław Medical University also has agreements with 22 international universities. They participate in student and teacher exchanges with countries like France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Spain, the Netherlands, and England through programs like Socrates and Erasmus from the European Union.

2) Medical University of Silesia

The Medical University of Silesia, also known as Śląski Uniwersytet Medyczny in Polish, is in Katowice, Poland. It has about 10,218 students and 1,201 teachers, including 295 professors.

The university has five different departments: Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Public Health, and Health Sciences. The Health Sciences department offers degrees in nursing, physical therapy, and dietetics.

The Medicine and Dentistry departments have special programs taught in English, with 517 students in Medicine and 57 students in Dentistry.

3) Medical University of Lodz

The Medical University of Łódź came into existence on October 1, 2002, when two institutions merged: the Medical Academy of Łódź, founded on January 1, 1950, and the Military Medical Academy of Łódź, established on July 1, 1958.

This university is known as the biggest teaching hospital in Poland and a significant European research center.

Before the merger, the university had seven faculties: Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Physiotherapy, Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, Faculty of Health Sciences, and Faculty of Military Medicine. However, after the merger, these faculties were combined into three larger ones. They are:

  • Faculty of Medicine with Department of Dentistry and Department of Biomedical Sciences
  • Faculty of Pharmacy
  • Faculty of Health Sciences with Department of Nursery and Midwifery

4) Medical University Gdańsk Faculty of Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine at the Medical University of Gdańsk, previously called Gdańsk Medical Academy, is the biggest medical school in Northern Poland and is highly respected as one of the best in the country.

They teach over 5,000 students in various faculties: Medicine, Pharmacy, Health Sciences (which includes the Institute of Maritime and Tropical Medicine), and the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology in collaboration with the University of Gdańsk.

The university has nearly a thousand teachers, including over a hundred professors. They offer education in almost all medical fields and also have classes in English for the Faculty of Medicine program.

5) Pomeranian Medical University Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry

The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at Pomeranian Medical University (PMU) started in Szczecin, Poland, back in 1948. It’s one of four parts of the university that focus on medicine and health.

The Medical Faculty began in 1996, and the Faculty of Dentistry started ten years later. PMU has been teaching medical programs in English for over 20 years. Each year, about 150 international students come to study medicine in English, making it one of the first places in Poland to offer this.

The medicine program takes 6 years, and dentistry takes 5 years, with a point system called ECTS that helps students switch between universities. During your studies, you’ll get practical training in labs, hospitals, and real practice. But, attending lectures is crucial to gain the necessary medical knowledge.
