Ukraine is a big country in Europe with lots of people. Even though it might not be the first choice for some, it’s a great place for international students. That’s because it has affordable tuition fees, degrees that are recognized worldwide, low living costs, and many programs taught in English.

Best Ukraine universities for international students

1) Bogomolets National Medical University

Bogomolets National Medical University (NMU) is a medical school that started back in 1841 in Kyiv, Russia. It’s named after a famous physiologist, Alexander A. Bogomolets. They teach over 10,000 students, including about 1,300 from 56 different countries. The university has around 1,200 teachers.

This university is one of Ukraine’s best for medical studies. They have a degree that’s accepted by important organizations like WHO, UNESCO, and MCI. They offer different courses for students in both bachelor’s and master’s levels. There are 10 different faculties in the university, and they even have a special Institute for Post Graduate Education.

The university is known for being one of the first places to train medical experts and researchers in healthcare. They have about 1,500 professors, including 855 with a Ph.D. and 205 with a Doctor of Sciences degree. This means students learn from very experienced and knowledgeable teachers in the field of medicine.

2) Lviv Polytechnic National University

Lviv Polytechnic National University is the biggest science university in Lviv, Ukraine. They’ve been around since 1816 and have been really important for science and technology in Central Europe.

In the past, it was a major technical school in Poland too, kind of like the Warsaw Polytechnic. In 2020, Lviv Polytechnic was ranked among the top 1000 universities in the world by Times Higher Education. In 2019, they had around 35,000 students.

The university teaches more than 35,000 students, including people who study away from campus. They offer training in 64 different bachelor’s programs and 124 specializations, with 123 of those being at the master’s level.

There are over 2,200 teachers, with more than 320 of them having a Ph.D. and over 1,200 being associate professors or having a Ph.D. The university also brings in scientists from other places like the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, companies, and design institutes to help with teaching.

3) Kharkiv National Medical University

Kharkiv National Medical University used to be called Kharkiv Medical Institute and Kharkiv State Medical University. It’s a medical school in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Unfortunately, in March 2022, many of its buildings were seriously damaged because of the Russian invasion into Ukraine.

There are over 700 teachers at the university. Some of them have high honors and awards from Ukraine, and others are part of international medical groups.

Since 1951, the university has been training medical professionals for countries in Eastern Europe, China, and Mongolia. And since 1961, they’ve been teaching students from other places in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

Right now, there are about 3400 foreign students in the Kharkiv National Medical University who study at the Preparatory Department, Medical, Nursing and Dental Faculties, undergo postgraduate and clinical post-graduate (residency) courses as well as professional probation at departments of the University in Dental, therapy, orthopedics, surgery, oncology, urology, psychiatry, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynecology, as well as other medical specialties.

The university has educated over 5,000 experts for 86 different countries in Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Some of them even have advanced degrees in medical science.

4) Bukovinian State Medical University

Bukovinian State Medical University is a well-known place of higher learning found in Chernivtsi, Ukraine. It’s a modern and versatile university that provides medical education in steps.

This university is on the list of schools approved by the World Health Organization, the Great Charter of Universities, and the European University Association. BSMU is famous for its successful graduates who have done really well in different areas like medicine, pharmacy, economics, education, science, and culture.

The university has different levels of education for fields like healthcare (which includes medicine and pharmacy) and biology. There are 24 different areas to study. Foreign students can learn in either English or Ukrainian. BSMU is proud of its work in training students and producing graduates who go on to do important things in their fields.

5) Uzhhorod National University

Uzhhorod National University, situated in Uzhhorod, Ukraine, is a well-established public school that started in 1945. It’s known for being one of the best universities in the region, famous for its good teaching and research work.

The university has 14 different departments and offers lots of courses for students, like medicine, engineering, law, economics, humanities, and social sciences. They also teach languages like English, German, French, Spanish, and Hungarian.

There are more than 18,000 students at Uzhhorod National University, and they come from all over the world, including Europe, Asia, and Africa. The university is known globally for its strong research and working together with other schools and research groups from around the world.

The university also has research centers and groups that study lots of different things like medicine, biotechnology, economics, history, and culture. They also put out a bunch of academic magazines and have meetings and conferences during the year.

6) Vinnitsa National Medical University

National Pirogov Memorial Medical University, Vinnitsa, offers programs for students who want to learn about medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and nursing. This university is known and approved by the World Health Organization (WHO), and it’s listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools. There are more than 7,000 students studying here, and over 2,000 of them come from different countries around the world.

The teachers at this university include more than 1,000 professors, associate professors, and assistant professors. The university has more than 60 departments where students can learn different subjects. They also do a lot of research and work with other top universities and medical institutions all over the world.

7) Kyiv International University

Kyiv International University is a private university located in Kyiv, Ukraine. It was established in 1994 and is approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

This university offers various undergraduate and graduate programs in subjects like business, law, economics, computer science, and international relations. They focus on giving students practical education, helping them gain real-world experience and improve their professional skills.

8) Zaporozhye State Medical University

Zaporizhzhia State Medical University, located in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine, is a modern and highly respected medical university. It has the highest level of accreditation, which is the 4th level, and has the authority to manage itself.

The university has approximately 70 professors and doctors who are experts in their fields, along with around 300 assistant-professors and candidates of science working in 52 different departments. Many of them have received prestigious awards and honors for their contributions to science and education in Ukraine. A significant percentage of the university’s teaching staff holds advanced degrees, with some departments having 100% of their teachers holding scientific degrees.
